about

Transforming of deteriorating concrete riverbanks into naturalised banks

J Group was engaged by Sydney Water to deliver the Cooks River Naturalisation Project, transforming over 1.1 km of deteriorating concrete riverbanks into sandstone-lined, naturalised banks with indigenous plantings.

This project spanned three key sites: Cup & Saucer Creek, Flockhart Park to Beamish Street, and Second Ave, Belfield, and aimed to enhance the river’s ecology and habitat diversity.

Works included the planting of 57,000 native plants, the construction of pathways, viewing platforms, and boardwalks, along with land reshaping and the installation of hydraulic structures. The project complied with stringent environmental and safety regulations, ensuring minimal disruption while improving the river’s natural environment and public amenity.
